Sydenham's new community moneyshop

The closure of Barclay's Bank left an eyesore at the top of Sydenham. Refurbished and re-opened as the new branch of ACTS Credit Union the CU provides valuable financial services to the local community by the local community and a valuable link to the international movement for monetary justice.

Grand Opening

ACTS Credit Union is one of the fastest growing in the south of England. Steve Bullock launched ACTS, as Mayor of Lewisham, in 1992 and became the 100th member in 1993. ACTS operated from The Grove Church Centre, Jews Walk and Forest Hill Community Church centre on Sydenham Road. The new moneyshop at 262 Kirkdale replaces these and was opened by Steve & local MP Jim Dowd on June 12th 2004.

Rebuilding the former bank

New ceilings, staircase, toilets, kitchen and converting the original vault to a meeting room. New heating, ventilation, electrics and lighting were also needed, with a completely re-designed interior. Now a secure cash office, two interview rooms and an open plan reception area create a pleasant, safe environment for members and staff alike.
