Kirkdale Bookshop Gallery - Audrey Hammond Exhibition

Audrey Hammond

Audrey Hammond's Sydenham
Kirkdale Bookshop Gallery
11th March until 30th April 2005

Livesey Memorial Hall

Many people in Sydenham will know of Audrey's work in the beautifully illustrated 'Crystal Palace - Norwood Heights' published in 1988 and still one of the best selling books of the area.

Geraldine, the bookshop manager, invited Audrey to come downhill and paint Sydenham. The result is a new and absorbing exhibition. They are mostly ink and watercolours created over the last six months and all are available for sale. We have only space to show a small selection here.

Bridge House Tavern

Most of the paintings were done over the winter period. Hence the choice of subjects was heavily influenced by being able to find a viewpoint where she could park and paint in relative comfort. It was also an opportunity for Audrey to discover parts of Sydenham that she had always passed by unseen.

Clapperboard Cottages

Audrey was born in South London and studied Fine Art at Bromley College of Art. She has taught Art at Sydenham High School. Audrey and her husband Martin have lived in Crystal Palace since 1956 having brought up two sons and two daughters.
