Heading back eastwards
and downwards we come to The Bowl concert arena. For many years there was a
shell structure which every summer was home to Sunday evening concerts by the
London Philharmonic. Everyone would bring a picnic and kids and it was free if
you preferred to sit on the grass banks.
Bromley when saddled
with the administration of the park let out this as a concession to promoters.
They banned picnics because they wanted to sell food and the whole concert
programme collapsed. Concerts are still held here from the strange new stage by
Ian Ritchie Architects in 1997.
