Sydenham
Garden is an association formed in February 2003 whose aim is to help people
living with a significant illness in their lives |
Can you
help us make this into a place where those with serious illness can find
help? |
|
We will
be looking after a nature reserve in which a small community garden will be
created.
The
project is for the benefit of the whole community but will particulary help
those coping with ill health, by providing a place where they can spend time
and work with others.
People
referred to the project will work alongside staff trained in horticultural
therapy, learning new skills as they return to health. They will also be able
to join an art and craft group.
We have
permission to build an environmentally friendly wooden building (see
architect's drawings below) on part of the site.
We need
£330,000 to create this garden building to make Sydenham Garden a
welcoming and healing place. |
The News Shopper reports
16/03/05:
Sydenham Garden Charity has received
permission from Lewisham Council to build a facility which offers gardening
therapy to mental health patients. Garden manager Nick Fry said: "Volunteers
will be working hard this year to raise £330,000 to build the new
facilities. It is hoped work will begin next year."
Mayor Steve Bullock said: "Gardening
therapy is a good way to help people increase their self-esteem and confidence
and help improve the quality of their lives."
We need skilled staff to work
there...
