Sydenham's 'golden route was the old No.12 service that transversed central London to Shepherd's Bush. This was rationalised around 1990 and truncated and renumbered to a less memorable 176. The old London Routemasters have been replaced by more modern 'doored' stock.

It does now operate 24/7 so providing a vital link between Central London and Sydenham after all the trains have stopped and taxis are reluctant to come south of the river. During the day it can take an hour or so to traverse a convoluted and congested route from Penge via Forest Hill. Hence the train service of 15/17 minutes to London Bridge is the preferred service for those without free bus passes or only wanting to travel the local section of the route.

Most of the other services run East - West and many go to Crystal Palace - the main south London bus terminus where you can get a connection to almost anywhere.
