Lawrie Park Road - Colvin Close 14/03/05

Correspondents in the Sydenham Town Forum reported a fatal car in the early hours of Saturday morning. 'Jake Angel', a local resident, reports that a car driven at high speed by under age and uninsured kids hit another resident's parked car. The 16 year old driver was killed and the two passengers were very seriously injured and were taken to Lewisham Hospital.

Wreaths mark the spot in Lawrie Park Road at the junction of Colvin Close. Relatives and many friends have taken time to pay their respects at the scene.

Lawrie Park Road - 15/03/05

Lawrie Park Road is a wide busy bus route. Parked cars on either side and the recent additions of extra pedestrian refuges can make it a difficult road to navigate at times. Friends of the injured report that the car was coming from the Penge end and swerved around the keep left sign (above) and then swerved out to get around a parked car on the left and then swerved back to avoid a car coming in the opposite direction. The driver lost control hitting a parked car and ending up about 30 yards on the pavement beyond the white van in the middle of the picture.

There was a serious road crash in almost the same spot sometime on Christmas Day. The red post box in the picture is a replacement of another completely destroyed in an earlier accident. Are these pedestrian refuges making the situation worse? These crashes have sparked controversy amongst local residents on whether they should campaign for speed bumps.
