An occasional series of the great, good and greedy of Sydenham:

• John Logie Baird
  Inventor of television JLB came to live in Sydenham in 1932 and developed High Definition Colour Television in Crescent Wood Road. More <here>
   
• Ernest Shackleton
  The great Antarctic explorer was brought up in Sydenham, next to St Barts, and married Emily Dorman who lived a few hundred yards away in The Firs. More <here>
   
• Frank Shackleton
  Brother of Ernest, convicted of fraud, suspected thief of the Irish Crown Jewels and saved by a royal 'hush-up'. More <here>
   
• Theophilus William Williams
  First Mayor and "the biggest crook the borough has ever known". He was also, for many years, the most powerful political figure in Lewisham. More <here>
   

 
And a man not from Sydenham but made the name famous:

• Thomas Sydenham
  The physician who has been called the English Hippocrates, and the father of English medicine. More <here>
