Sydenham Supermarkets
Safeway & Lidl supermarkets in town and Sainsburys
SavaCenter hypermarket down at Bell Green. Lidl is the successor to
Gateway/Summerfield and is a no-nonsense value store. Safeway is the essential
stop on the way home from the train in the evening to buy a pizza and a nice
bottle of wine. If you are around at lunchtime - the bread straight from the
bakery is superb - much better than Safeway's Tesco & Sainsbury rivals. The
Safeway staff are the friendliest in town. Both Lidl & Safeway share a
convenient free shopper's car park.
SavaCentre - or Sainsbury's as it has been rebranded -
is a vast hangar standing alone in a car park on the former site of the Bell
Green Gas Works. The adjoining Sainsbury filling station keeps the price of
petrol low in the surrounding area.
Further afield is the excellent Waitrose in Beckenham,
Tescos in Anerley and a bigger Safeway at Crystal Palace. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
