Turning through 180°
we look upward to where the Main Avenue has been replaced by the east turnstile
entrance to the National Sports Centre. The scruffy and unused tunstiles guard
an elevated walkway through the NSC to the Paxton statue and car parks. You can
see the main Crystal Palace transmitter just to the right of centre.
The NSC sits in the
heart of the park and is a barrier which makes it difficult to treat the Park
as one cohesive area. Some of the LDA
<see here> proposals for
redevelopment would see the removal of the NSC swimming pool complex and
reconcentrating sporting activities around the stadium and car
parks. |
