We start from the
Sydenham Avenue entrance. The pathway leads to the memorial to merchant sailors
lost in World War Two. Surrounded by rampant red tulips this is a striking
marker nobody can pass without thinking of those brave men.
The memorial known as
S.S Crystal Palace faces south across the cricket pitch. This pitch was once
part of the Kent County Cricket Circut but now Kent's official grounfd is about
2 miles further east at the end of Worsley Bridge Road. Officially Beckenham
but sixes can stll land in Sydenham.
Today anybody can play
cricket football or just picnic on the pitch... |
