Crystal Palace was
sponsored here by the railway companies precisely to make money by bringing
people from London to the Park for pleasure. They built a grand terminus on
Crystal Palace Parade with subways directly into the Palace. In the 1950s this
was ripped down and instead of preserving the route it was sold off for
residential and industrial building so it can never be re-instated.
This is tragic as major
developments for the park have been vetoed because of lack of public transport
capacity.
Nevertheless the junior
station exists here with trains to Victoria, London Bridge & East Croydon.
The Victorian ediface has been extended with a imitation Palace booking hall.
