17. Forgotten Statue

Crystal Palace was, amongst other things, a celebration of empire. Around the terraces are scattered broken and neglected statuary, numerous sphinx, grand staircases and more.

This area did have a brief annual rennaisance when it played host to the largest Firework display in the UK organised by Forest Hill & Sydenham Rotary Club.

Here a solitary sultan looks out appropraitely eastward. Except Beckenham, Bromley and the Weald of Kent lack that eastern spice so wonderfully shown in the Palace.

Sadly because of the broken state of the stone most of this area is visually impaired by safety fencing.
