Crown Castle Station

At the end of the upper terrace is the main BBC transmitter station. This is built into the hill alongside the main transmitter mast <picture 16> It is not a pretty site. It was built in the 1960s when the mast carried the BBC TV transmissions (national radio comes from Wrotham alongside the M20 in Kent) this served the whole of South East England.

The BBC was forced to sell off its transmission network and it is now managed by Crown Castle. As can be seen from the mast itself the the station handles a wide variety of broadcasting stations both analogue and digital.

A good description of the station and some vintage photographs can be found <here>.
